Highlights from the ABDNHA Annual Garden Tour in Borrego Springs

Borrego Springs recently welcomed garden and architecture enthusiasts for the annual **ABDNHA Garden Tour**, a self-guided event showcasing some of the area's most distinctive homes and landscapes.

Participants explored four private properties, each offering a unique blend of design, history, and water-wise landscaping—hallmarks of desert living.

Featured Homes & Gardens

Mid-Century Desert Modern Home
- Classic 1950s architecture with original built-in cabinetry
- Iconic Mid-Century furnishings by Eames, Platner, and Heywood-Wakefield
- Mature native landscaping focused on conservation

75% Native Plants & 1970s Style
- House built from original 1969 plans
- Bold orange interior aesthetic
- Garden featuring rare native cacti and water-saving upgrades cutting usage by 92%

Rancho de Fichas (Bottle Cap Ranch)
- Originally built in 1948 as a dormitory
- Features native California fan palms, jojoba, and elephant trees

A Day of Inspiration

In addition to admiring architecture and desert gardening techniques, attendees were reminded to bring essentials like closed-toe shoes, hats, sunscreen, and water for this outdoor event. ABDNHA members also enjoyed a special discount at the Nature Center on the day of the tour.

This event helps support the **Anza-Borrego Desert Natural History Association (ABDNHA)** and its mission to promote desert education and conservation.
