An Unforgettable Experience: A Day Filled with Music, Stories, and Fun

On a perfect weather day at the Christmas Circle in Borrego Springs, the Borrego Springs Music Festival Day on Saturday, March 25, offered a fantastic range of activities for everyone to enjoy, including dogs, kids, and anything in between. In addition to showcasing an array of musical talents, the event also featured an Art in the Park event that left the crowd in awe with stunning artwork and hand-made crafts on display. The music lineup was diverse, ranging from the bluesy tones of Dennis Franklin’s Rockin’ Memphis Blues Review to the energetic sounds of Disturbing the Peace and Lightning Blue, offering a mix of country, rock, and southern rock that had everyone tapping their feet.

Hunsingers Electricity in the Air!

One particular artist that caught my attention was Dennis Hunsinger, our favorite “retired” electrician from Borrego Springs. He was playing some of my favorite Tom Petty songs, and the crowd was ecstatic. Kids were dancing along with adults, and people at the booths were tapping their feet and walking with a little more rhythm in their step. The vibe was electric, and it was clear that the festival was a place for people to come together, enjoy some great music, and let loose.  Throughout the day, the performances were accompanied by a palpable sense of excitement!

Borrego Springs' Pioneer Heritage Through Denny Duvall's Stories

Under the cool shade of a towering palm tree, I found my good friend Denny Duvall. His table was set up with a perfect view of the stage and all the festival-goers and their furry friends passing by. Meeting Denny, a long-time resident of Borrego Springs, was one of the highlights of my time at the festival. He was selling his first published book, “That’s My Story and I’m Stickin’ To It,” a delightful collection of whimsical short stories about life in Borrego Springs.

Denny’s family has a rich history in the town dating back to the 1930s when his father, Eddie DuVall, took over the store and postmastership in the valley. Despite the challenges of the Depression, Eddie kept the store going and served as Deputy Sheriff for the valley. After World War II, things began to pick up again in the valley, and the community of Borrego Springs began to thrive.

As I sat by Denny’s table, I couldn’t help but notice his engaging conversations with festival-goers, sharing his experiences of living in Borrego Springs for about four decades and what life was like in the town during its early days. His stories were captivating, and I found myself drawn to the conversation. Denny’s presence at the festival was a reminder of the importance of cherishing life’s simple moments and finding joy in the past and present.

Community Unites at Borrego Springs Music Festival with Handmade Crafts

The air was alive with the sounds of music and excitement at the Borrego Springs Music Festival. This event brought together people from all walks of life to enjoy a day filled with entertainment and fun. One of the highlights of the festival was the variety of booths that were set up showcasing hand-made clothes, cards, artwork, jewelry, and other unique items.

Festival-goers were able to peruse the various booths, admiring the creativity and craftsmanship of the vendors. Many of the items on display were one-of-a-kind, making them truly special and unique. It was a delight to see the range of talent on display, from intricate jewelry designs to hand-sewn clothing and beautiful paintings.

The booths added an extra layer of excitement and vibrancy to the festival, as people were able to take home a piece of the event with them. Whether it was a beautiful piece of jewelry or a unique piece of artwork, these items served as a tangible reminder of the fun and community spirit that was present at the Borrego Springs Music Festival.

Michael Rue: Mister Borrego Springs Tech

As I sat by Denny’s table at the Christmas Circle, I had the pleasure of witnessing a chance encounter between Michael Rue and Denny. It was clear that the two were old friends, and as they caught up, I couldn’t help but be impressed by Michael’s enthusiasm for his work.

Michael Rue is a valuable addition to Borrego Springs, offering innovative and reliable tech services to the community. His passion for all things tech was evident at the Christmas Circle where he had set up a booth advertising his services. Michael’s snazzy Snoopy shirt caught my eye, and I was intrigued to learn more about his work.
