In its 19 th year, the Borrego Art Institute’s Annual Plein Air Invitational promises another
outstanding exhibition of plein air paintings focusing on the unique beauty and environmental
significance of the Anza-Borrego Desert and the Borrego Valley. The exhibition will present a
rich diversity of plein air paintings by a select group of 16 artists working in oils, watercolor and
pastels, all producing work for the show during the week of March 3-7.
Returning artists from 2024 include Geoffrey Allen, Jason Li, Natasha Isenhour, Jim McVicker, Jim Wodark, Margaret Larlham, Ellen Howard and Stock Schlueter. New artists to the Borrego Plein Air are Larry Hemmerich, Debra Huse, Lynn Mehta, Steve Curry and Richie Vios.
Previous invitees Patty McGeeney and Jeff Sewell round out this year’s roster of artists.
New work will go up daily in the main gallery March 3-7, and the gallery hours will be extended from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. The awards presentation and reception will be held Sat. March 8, 3:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m, followed by the music of June Clivas and the Ditty Boys. The show will be up through April 27. The Invitational will be curated by Kay Levie. The Juror of Awards is Chuck Kovacic, and Jeanne Plekon will judge the quick draw at Rams Hill on March 5.
