The Rich Tapestry of Font’s Point History

While Font’s Point is renowned for its scenic allure, its historical roots run deep. The land of Anza-Borrego has been home to various indigenous communities for millennia, including the Kumeyaay people who revered the area as “Tamarisk Grove.”

The overlook itself was named after Demetrio Fon, a late 19th-century Mexican sheepherder who constructed a stone cabin nearby, making it a favored rest stop for wayfarers.

In 1933, the area was officially designated as Anza-Borrego Desert State Park by the state of California. Today, Font’s Point continues to captivate visitors with its tranquil ambiance and panoramic views.
