Get ready to pack up the kids, grab your camera and head out to explore one of nature’s most beautiful displays – the Anza Borrego flower bloom!

Imagine a sea of vibrant colors, as far as the eye can see, and the sweet scent of wildflowers filling the air. This is not just a sight for adults, but a magical experience for children as well.

However, it is always important to note that the flower bloom can vary from year to year, and it’s always recommended to check with the park staff or website for the most recent information before planning your trip, So don’t forget to call ahead.

After enjoying the flower bloom, head to the Borrego Springs Public Park to play, learn, and see some more beautiful desert plants; we pride ourselves on having a clean and safe park; you can count on that! Tips for Exploring the Flower Bloom with Kids

  • Plan your visit around peak bloom season, typically in February and March.
  • Bring sunscreen, water, snacks, and comfortable walking shoes for everyone.
  • Make it fun by turning it into a scavenger hunt. Create a list of flowers for the kids to find and check off.
  • Bring a picnic blanket and have a picnic among the flowers.
  • Respect the flowers and teach kids not to trample or pick them.

Best Places to See the Flower Bloom with Kids

  • Di Giorgio Road: Head south on S-22 from Borrego Springs, turn left onto Di Giorgio Road and follow it for about 5.5 miles. Turn left into Coyote Canyon Road, and follow it to the end of the asphalt road where you will find a parking area. Please note that some roads may be closed during or after rain. It is always recommended to check with the park staff or website for the most recent information. (my first choice to take kids! Plenty of room to roam! Slow or no traffic)
  • Henderson Canyon Road: Head south on S-22 from Borrego Springs Turn left onto Henderson Canyon Road. Follow Henderson Canyon Road for about 3.5 miles to the parking area.

Other Suggestions

  • Visit on a weekday to avoid crowds.
  • Again…bring water.
  • Wear hiking shoes, if possible, to avoid getting stuck by cacti. (avoid flip flops)
  • Be prepared for little to no cell coverage.
  • Tell someone where you’re going and when you plan to return.
  • Bring binoculars and bird books to spot some of the local birds.
  • Consider taking a guided tour to learn more about the flowers and the desert ecosystem.
  • If you have time, visit the Borrego Palm Canyon Trail for a hike among the flowers.

Exploring the Anza Borrego flower bloom with kids is a great way to introduce them to the beauty of nature and the desert ecosystem. Di Giorgio Road and Borrego Springs Public Park are great family options. Remember to plan ahead, bring the necessary gear, and have fun.
