Memorial Day Ceremony Honors Fallen Heroes in Borrego Springs

The Borrego Springs American Legion Post 853 held a touching Memorial Day ceremony at Christmas Circle at 11:00 a.m. to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. The community gathered to participate in the tribute.

The ceremony began with the posting of the colors by the Color Guard, followed by Judy Taylor singing the National Anthem. ChrisAnn Wells, ALA President, led the Pledge of Allegiance, and Father Dave Madsen from St. Barnabas Episcopal Church and a member of the Borrego Ministers Association gave the Chaplains’ Prayer.

Dale Jones, the Commander, welcomed everyone before Gina Moran and Marjorie Schuessler passed the Ceremonial Flag. Judy Taylor performed "God Bless America," and ChrisAnn Wells delivered the American Legion Auxiliary Address. Kathy Pratt recited the poignant poem "In Flanders Fields," and Taylor performed "America the Beautiful."

Dale Jones gave the American Legion Address and led the Commanders’ Silent Prayer, followed by another Chaplains’ Prayer by Father Dave Madsen. The event concluded with a 21 Gun Salute and Taps performed by Paul Schuessler.

Community Luncheon

After the ceremony, attendees gathered at Post 853 for a hamburger and chip luncheon. Donations supported veteran and local programs, reflecting the American Legion's dedication to serving those who have served and their families.
