Navigating Tesla in Borrego Springs: A Visitor’s Guide

Share

Planning to Visit Borrego Springs?

As a Tesla owner visiting Borrego Springs, it’s essential to know the charging options available in the area. While the town currently does not have any Tesla Supercharger stations, several Level 2 charging stations are located throughout the town. Some popular charging spots include the Borrego Valley Airport, the Borrego Springs Resort, and the Borrego Springs RV Park.

Another important thing to consider when visiting Borrego Springs in your Tesla is the drive up and down the Montezuma Grade. The grade is a steep, winding road that can be challenging for some drivers, especially in a vehicle with a high center of gravity like a Tesla. Here are some more tips to help you navigate the drive:

  1. Be aware of the energy consumption, keep an eye on the energy gauge, and plan accordingly. You may want to stop at a charging station or take a break before tackling the grade.
  2. Keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you, and be aware of the surrounding traffic. Be extra cautious when passing other vehicles, as the winding nature of the road can make it difficult to see oncoming traffic.
  3. Use the regenerative braking feature to recharge the battery while descending the grade. When descending, the regenerative braking will convert the car’s kinetic energy into electricity and charge the battery.
  4. Take a break if you feel tired or uncomfortable, and consider taking the drive during the day. The winding nature of the road and the bright sunlight of the desert make it challenging to drive at night.
  5. Watch out for animals! Deer, bobcats, rabbits, turkeys, coyotes, big horn sheep, and more!
  6. Watch out for the bike riders!

By following these tips and being prepared for the drive, you can navigate the Montezuma Grade confidently and make the most of your visit to Borrego Springs in your Tesla. Remember that safety should always be the top priority, and to always drive according to your own capabilities and comfort level.
