If you’re visiting Anza-Borrego for the first time. Where do you suggest people go?

If you’re visiting Anza-Borrego for the first time, I’d highly recommend starting with the Borrego Palm Canyon Trail! This iconic hike is perfect for all skill levels and offers a little bit of everything—stunning desert views, unique rock formations, and the incredible reward of a lush palm oasis at the end! It’s a 3-mile round trip and is a great way to experience the beauty and diversity of the desert landscape. Pro tip: Keep an eye out for bighorn sheep—you might even spot one of Ramsey’s cousins along the way! 

What’s one place you haven’t explored yet but really want to visit in Borrego or Anza-Borrego?

One place I’ve been dreaming of exploring is the Goat Canyon Trestle—did you know it’s the largest curved wooden trestle in the world? Nestled in a remote corner of Anza-Borrego, it’s not just an engineering marvel but also an incredible hike with breathtaking views of the desert and rugged terrain. The journey to get there is challenging, but I hear it’s well worth the adventure. I can only imagine standing beneath that massive structure, soaking in the history and scenery.

Any tips for spotting real bighorn sheep, or is that a secret only a local like you can keep?

Here’s my local tip: Head out early in the morning, especially when there’s water in the oasis. That’s when the bighorn sheep often come down to drink. Remember, the key is to respect the wildlife—give them space to stay safe—and always stick to the designated trails. It’s their home, and we’re just lucky visitors! 

Ramsey, do you have a favorite season here in Borrego? Or is every day a good day for a bighorn sheep?

Every day is a good day for a bighorn sheep, but if I had to choose, I’d say spring has my heart! That’s when the desert comes alive with wildflowers, and the weather is just perfect for exploring. But honestly, every season in Borrego has its own magic—fall’s cool mornings, winter’s quiet beauty, and summer’s dramatic skies.

Ramsey, if there was one word to describe your life in Borrego, what would it be?

Adventure! Every day in Borrego Springs is a chance to explore, discover, and connect with the incredible desert around me. Whether it’s hiking new trails, learning about wildlife, or soaking in those breathtaking views, life here is never dull.

How do you manage to post all those photos with hooves? Is there a secret “sheep-friendly” phone setting?

Great question! Let’s just say I’ve gotten creative—balancing my phone on rocks, using the timer, and even enlisting the help of a few friendly quails for those tricky angles. It’s all about teamwork here in the desert! Plus, I’ve been practicing my ‘hoofy’ skills for the perfect swipe. Who knew life as a bighorn sheep influencer would be this fun?!

Do any other animals in Anza-Borrego try to “photobomb” your shots? Who’s the biggest culprit?

Oh, absolutely! The desert is full of sneaky photobombers. The biggest culprits? Those cheeky California quails—they love popping into my shots like they’re the stars of the show. I’ve also caught some lizards striking a pose and even a curious jackrabbit or two hopping into the frame. The desert crew definitely knows how to steal the spotlight.

If you could tag one animal friend in all your posts, who would it be and why?

That’s a tough one! If I had to choose, I’d tag my roadrunner buddy. Why? Because they’re always on the go, just like me! They’ve got that adventurous spirit and a knack for finding the coolest desert spots. Plus, who wouldn’t want a speedy sidekick to join in on all the fun?

What’s the one spot in Borrego Springs you think everyone should see at least once?

If there’s one spot in Borrego Springs everyone has to see, it’s Fonts Point! Known as the 'Desert’s Grand Canyon,' the view is absolutely breathtaking. From up there, you can see the vast badlands stretching as far as the eye can see—especially magical at sunrise or sunset. Trust me, it’s a sight you’ll never forget. But remember, all-wheel drive or 4x4 is required to get there, so be sure your vehicle is ready for the adventure!

Are there any local shops or cafes you like to “drop by” for a visit in Borrego?

Honestly, there are so many great spots in Borrego, it’s hard to pick just one! I’m all about exploring and supporting the local scene, so I’m excited to check out as many shops, cafes, and businesses as I can. Each one has its own charm, and I can’t wait to try them all!
