Borrego Springs, located in the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, makes for the perfect day trip from San Diego. Just a short drive away, this charming desert town offers a variety of activities and attractions that are sure to make your day memorable.
One of the best parts of a day trip to Borrego Springs is the drive there. As you make your way into the desert, you’ll be treated to some of the most beautiful and breathtaking views you’ve ever seen. The Montezuma Grade, in particular, offers spectacular vistas of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
As you wind your way down the grade, keep an eye out for wildlife, including bighorn sheep and other desert creatures. You might even spot a jet flying overhead or catch a glimpse of a coyote or fox darting across the road.
To make the most of your drive, it’s a good idea to download your favorite music playlist in advance. Cell reception can be spotty on the Montezuma Grade, so it’s best to be prepared. With your music ready to go, you can sit back and enjoy the ride as you take in the stunning desert landscape.
The drive into Borrego Springs is truly an experience in itself, and it sets the tone for the rest of your day in this beautiful desert oasis. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride. You’re in for a treat!
As a local, I highly recommend Kesling’s Kitchen for lunch when you’re in Borrego Springs. They always have unique meal choices and use fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. You can check their Facebook page ( https://www.facebook.com/Keslingpix ) every day at noon to see the updated menu.
This is just my personal opinion of a good day in Borrego Springs, but for a larger look at what the area has to offer, check out the website https://www.borregoexperience.com/. There you will find a wide range of activities, attractions, and events to enjoy during your visit.
After lunch, take a walk to the mall and browse the shops. There are plenty of interesting and unique items to discover, from art, household items, and handmade jewelry to desert-themed gifts.
Before you head back home, be sure to stop by Carmalita’s for a refreshing margarita or Bloody Mary. Sit outside on the patio and enjoy the warm desert breeze as you relax with your drink. (Just add chips, salsa, and guac for perfection)
After you enjoy your margarita at Carmalita’s , be sure to walk across the street and check out Frugal Coyote and the Bighorn Fudge Company. Frugal Coyote is a fun and quirky thrift store that sells all kinds of interesting items, from clothing, and antiques to handmade crafts.
A day trip to Borrego Springs is the perfect way to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and reconnect with nature. With its charming stores and restaurants, beautiful desert landscape, and endless opportunities for relaxation and adventure, Borrego Springs has something for everyone.
The Bighorn Fudge Company is a must-visit for anyone with a sweet tooth, with its delicious candied nuts, cookies, and fudge! If you get into town early enough grab a coffee!
