Moving Here? Welcome to Borrego Springs!

Share

Dear Possible Borrego Resident,

We are so excited that you are considering making the move to our beautiful town of Borrego Springs! As a local, I can tell you that life here is truly special.

One thing to keep in mind as you prepare for your move is that the heat during the summer months can be intense. It’s important to make adjustments to your daily routine and to stay hydrated. Keeping your home cool during the summer can also be tricky, so it’s a good idea to do your research and explore your options for air conditioning and shading. However, with a little bit of planning and acclimation, you’ll be enjoying the sunshine in no time.

One of the things that make Borrego Springs such a unique and wonderful place to live is our tight-knit community. We are a town that values “live and let live,” and we come together to support one another when there is a need.

One great way to get to know your neighbors and stay connected with the community is to join the Borrego Springs Community Facebook group ( https://gotoborregosprings.com/2022/10/01/join-the-discussion-at-the-borrego-springs-community-facebook-group/ ). This group has become a virtual town square, where people share information, ask for recommendations, and generally keep in touch with one another.

If you have little ones, they will love their school in Borrego Springs! From what I have seen, there is enough time for each student to get the help they need and bullying is not a problem in our schools. In fact, the sense of community extends to the classroom, where students and teachers work together to create a positive and supportive learning environment.

Another thing that makes Borrego Springs unique is our dark skies. Because we are located in a remote area, there is very little light pollution, which makes for incredible stargazing. Keep in mind that the night lighting in town may be different than what you are used to, so it may take a little bit of adjustment.

Here are a few ideas for dark sky lighting:

  1. Use low-wattage bulbs: To minimize light pollution, use bulbs with lower wattages and choose fixtures that direct light downward.
  2. Use shielded fixtures: Shielded fixtures are designed to direct light downward and prevent it from escaping upward or sideways.
  3. Use warm-colored bulbs: Warm-colored bulbs (such as amber, red, or yellow) produce less blue light, which is more disruptive to nocturnal animals and can interfere with star visibility.
  4. Use timers or motion sensors: Timers and motion sensors can help ensure that lights are only on when they are needed, reducing energy consumption and light pollution.
  5. Turn off unnecessary lights: When possible, turn off unnecessary lights or dim them to the lowest setting.
We are so excited that you are considering making the move to our beautiful town of Borrego Springs! As a local, I can tell you that life here is truly special.

One more thing to note is that it’s a good idea to have your dogs chipped, detailed contact info on the collar, and make sure they are secure, there is something about Borrego Springs that seems to turn even the most well-behaved dogs into Houdinis and it’s DANGEROUS out in the desert for dogs of all sizes. If your furry friend does happen to go missing, be sure to check the Facebook group or the bulletin boards at the Post Office or Center Market. And if you don’t have a Facebook account, don’t hesitate to make small talk with your neighbors or stop by the post office to see if anyone has heard of any lost dogs.

One of many community boards

We hope that you will decide to make Borrego Springs your new home. The people here are friendly, the scenery is breathtaking, and the sense of community is unparalleled. We welcome you with open arms and can’t wait to see you around town!

Sincerely, a local who only speaks for myself and my team with this letter
