Supporting family owned fruit and vegetable farms is important for a number of reasons. One reason is that these farms often prioritize sustainable and natural growing practices, which can have a positive impact on the environment and on the health of the people consuming the products. These farms also provide important economic support to local communities, as the profits from the farm stay within the community rather than going to a large corporation.
Additionally, supporting family owned farms helps to preserve the diverse range of crops and farming practices that are important for maintaining a healthy and resilient food system. This is especially important in California, where we are fortunate to have access to a wide variety of farm-grown food. By supporting these farms, we can ensure that this access continues and that the local farming tradition is preserved for future generations.
Fruits and vegetables are typically seasonal, meaning that they are more readily available and at their peak during certain times of the year. This is because they are grown and harvested during specific seasons, and are often more flavorful and nutritious when they are in season. For example, summer fruits like watermelon and strawberries are typically at their best during the warmer months, while root vegetables like potatoes, carrots, and beets are more commonly harvested in the fall and winter.
This is usually the plan for deliveries, it can change weekly: Borrego Springs deliveries will be made to the Borrego Mall (near the post office) between 7:00am and 7:30am on Friday and all other deliveries in San Diego will be made after 12:00 pm also on FRIDAY.
